Our Mission

The mission of the Carter Burden Network is to promote the well-being of seniors, 60 and older, through a continuum of services, advocacy and volunteer programs in NYC oriented to individual, family and community needs. We are dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to live safely and with dignity.

 Carter Burden Leonard Covello Senior Program

The Leonard Covello Senior Program is located in East Harlem (312 East 109th Street) and offers socialization, recreation, and educational activities for any individual over the age of 60. Art workshops, health workshops, and a caregiver resource program are only a small portion of what the Leonard Covello center has to offer.

Carter Burden Luncheon Club & Senior Program

The Luncheon Club & Senior Program is located on the Upper East Side (351 East 71st Street) and provides a variety of activities for senior citizens over the age of 60. A program unique to the Luncheon Club is the daily delivery of homebound meals - a program that benefits many seniors in the area.

Carter Burden Lehman Village Senior Program  

The Lehman Village Senior Program is an uptown satellite of the Leonard Covello Program. It provides many of the same resources at the Covello program although mostly caters to individuals living in the Lehman Village Houses.

Carter Burden Roosevelt Island Senior Center

The Roosevelt Island Center is Carter Burden's newest program. The center is a satellite of the Carter Burden Luncheon Club & Senior Program, and offers a social, educational, and cultural services parallel to the services of the Luncheon Club.

Adult Day Programs

The Carter Burden Network offers two Adult Day Programs: The Carter Burden Metro East 99th Street Adult Day Program and the Carter Burden C.V. Starr Adult Day Program.

Social Services Unit

The Social Services Unit provides assistance with benefits and entitlements, advocacy, supportive counseling, money management, end of life planning and more. Services are offered to seniors aged 60 and older who live between 57th to 96th Street, Fifth Avenue to the East River. The Social Services Unit caters to both ambulatory and homebound residents of the Upper East Side.

Case Management Unit

Carter Burden's Case Management Unit provides a variety of services such as assistance with financial management, help applying for benefits, referrals to receive services such as home delivered meals and home-care and more . This unit serves homebound adults over the age of 60 who live between 59th Street & 143rd Street, from 5th Avenue to the East River or on Roosevelt Island.

Case Assistance/ Social Services

Case assistance and social services are also available at each of our senior centers in East Harlem (Leonard Covello, Lehman Village) and Roosevelt Island. Please contact the senior center in your preferred location for more information. 

Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program

The Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program helps senior citizens live safely and securely within Manhattan and Roosevelt Island communities. Services include everything from personal discussions and assistance to legal guidance.

Caregiver Resources

The Caregiver Resource Program is a new and unique program designed to benefit unpaid caregivers of adults 60 years and older. The program provides mental and emotional support/ services to those who are caring for older loved ones.

 

 Carter Burden Chelsea Art Gallery

Located in Chelsea, the Carter Burden Gallery (CBG) is a program of the Carter Burden Network, designed to give a voice to New York City's re-emerging older professional artists and to foster a supportive and culturally diverse artist community. 

Making Art Work

Making Art Work helps connect seniors within New York City to arts, art culture, and art education. Participants are able to engage in art projects, take part in art classes, and even partake in an annual fashion show. Additionally, seniors may have a chance to display their art in a gallery located in Manhattan.

Cultural Connections

The Cultural Connections program provides year round services and activities to seniors who enjoy engaging in New York City's cultural scene. The program coordinates outings for participants to theaters, museums, galleries, and much more.

 

Health & Wellness Programs

The Carter Burden Network provides extensive health and wellness workshops to seniors interested in improving and/ or maintaining their health and well-being.  We partner with other community based organizations to provide health services, educational workshops, and lectures on health specific topics.

Support & Discussion Groups

The Carter Burden Network offers support groups, specifically catered towards the Chinese population and women. A Chinese language group helps congregate those who find it difficult to travel to Chinatown to socialize and a Women’s discussion group is offered for those interested in women’s issues and related topics.

The Caregiver Resource Program is a new and unique program designed to benefit unpaid caregivers of adults 60 years and older. The program provides mental and emotional support/ services to those who are caring for older loved ones.
