Older Americans Month 2018: Engage at Every Age
For 55 years, Older Americans Month (OAM) has been observed to recognize older Americans and their contributions to our communities. Led by the Administration for Community Living’s Administration on Aging, every May offers opportunity to hear from, support, and celebrate our nation’s elders.
This year’s OAM theme, “Engage at Every Age,” emphasizes the importance of being active and involved, no matter where or when you are in life. You are never too old (or too young) to participate in activities that can enrich your physical, mental, and emotion well-being.
Remaining socially engaged can improve the quality of life for older adults. Carter Burden Network will use OAM 2018 to highlight the ways older adults in NYC can stay engaged through our programs, services, activities and classes designed to nurture mind, body and spirit. There's something for everyone at CBN:
Our Senior Centers are places where nutritious meals with new neighbors create lasting friendships that enrich lives.
Our Health and Wellness programs offer a full range of workshops, lectures and exercise classes that focus on building knowledge and empowering participants to make healthy choices.
Our Arts programs engage the imagination with exiting and stimulating activities such as ceramics, jewelry-making, sewing, singing, dancing, music lessons, museum visits and much more.
Social Service programs, like our Caregiver Resource Program and Support & Discussion groups, provide mental and emotional support and aim to reduce stress and isolation.
In addition, participating in these programs and services provides the opportunity to form enriching connections with other members, CBN staff, and volunteers of all ages.
No matter where you are in your life, there is no better time than now to start. We hope you will join in and Engage at Every Age!
