What does it look like to age well? This fall, five artists from the Carter Burden Gallery are answering with their work.
The Art of Aging Well is an exhibition and program series from the New York Academy of Medicine and Carter Burden Gallery. It explores where art, narrative health and healthy aging meet. The exhibition opened at the Academy on September 16 with an artist meet-and-greet and a performance by Young@Heart NYC. A graphic medicine workshop with cartoonist Kriota Willberg followed on September 22.
The featured artists are Karin Bruckner, Yvonne Lamar-Rogers, Barbara Lubliner, Wendy Moss and Stewart Siskind. Their work ranges widely. Bruckner layers printmaking, drawing, painting, collage and sculpture into mixed-media compositions about transformation and materiality. Siskind turns discarded printed materials into richly colored, hand-crafted collages with bold graphic structure.
The event series closes tomorrow, Thursday, October 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a panel on the power of art and creativity in healthy aging. The exhibition will stay on view until October 8th. Panelists include:
Karin Bruckner, mixed-media artist
Joan Jeffri, research director
Julie Kline, Lifetime Arts
Dr. Arjun Masurkar, neurologist
Stewart Siskind, collage artist
Jennine Ventura, NYC Cabinet for Older New Yorkers
Carter Burden Network's Health and Wellness Director Dr. Dozene Guishard will moderate. The panel takes place at the New York Academy of Medicine, 1216 Fifth Avenue. Register for the panel.
If you can't make it, the exhibition is coming to you. Most of the work will move to the MAW Gallery on the 3rd floor of our Covello Older Adult Center on October 12. Join us for an opening reception on October 21.
