Following a comprehensive national search conducted by Brettschneider Executive Search, the Carter Burden Network (CBN) Board of Directors is proud to announce the appointment of Joy Salvador, former Macy’s executive, as its next Executive Director effective June 5, 2026. The Board enthusiastically shared that Joy Salvador embodies Carter Burden Network’s guiding promise to its older adult clients, “We Will Always Go Above. You Will Always Belong.”
Karin Bruckner, an artist and teacher of printmaking, was recently granted a four-month residency to create a new body of work. The result—an installation comprised of dimensional paintings and structures—is currently on view at the Carter Burden Covello Center for Older Adults, in El Barrio. As one of her students over the past several years, I was intrigued by the variety, scale and integrity of the work.
In conjunction with Women’s History Month, Carter Burden Gallery is pleased to present Women leading the way, a national student art and women’s history exhibition created by artist Mireille Miller on view from February 12 through March 10, 2026. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, February 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Press are invited to view the exhibition and interview contributing artists and student contributors pre-exhibit from 5pm-6pm. With the exhibition an intergenerational workshop will be held at Carter Burden Gallery on Saturday, February 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, led by performing artist and printmaker Barbara Lubliner (as Ms. Muscle).
An Upper East Side kitchen was buzzing with activity as a group of devoted New Yorkers prepared food to spread some holiday cheer.
"There’s lamb and polenta. They are making a gorgeous salad back in the kitchen with mixed greens and dried apricots and goat cheese. It looks beautiful," said Citymeals on Wheels CEO Beth Shapiro. The organization's Christmas operation is now in its 44th year and offered a flawless all-around display.
Volunteers with Citymeals on Wheels got together to help homebound older New Yorkers on Christmas Day.
Volunteers on the Upper East Side were hard at work Thursday morning at the Carter Burden Luncheon Club and Older Adult Program. Meals were packed up for delivery, and lunch was also set up on site, with performances by carolers and musicians.
“Maria’s passion for the aging remained undiminished until she died,” said William J. Dionne, executive director of the Burden network. “She was a pit bull, with her passion. She got things done. If she saw injustice, she wanted to see it changed.”
The work that the whole Carter Burden Network does is about change. It’s about seeing things in a new way, seeing people in a new way, and looking at aging as a positive thing and not a negative thing. And all of our programs have that same message. We’re unique in the world. We’ve never actually found another professional gallery that focuses solely on older artists.
